Let us start our lesson saying some prayers and continue to work on memorizing the prayer "Blessed is the Spot."
The virtue of detachment is really about attaching our hearts to God and His qualities, and detaching from some of the feelings that lead us to do things that are not worthy- not good. It is choosing how you will act in a situation rather than just reacting. Feelings like sadness, jealousy, disappointment, frustration, anger - are natural. Everyone has them. It’s okay to feel what you feel, but you don’t have to act on the feelings unless you choose to. Detachment is a way to use your thinking and feeling together so that you don't let your feelings run away with you. I might feel jealous that you got something that I didn’t. I might feel like taking it, but I have to think- is this what God would want me to do? I have to let my soul shine through!
Let's use the interactive Word Games Page to learn the meaning of the words in the quote and help with memorizing it.
In the life cycle of a butterfly, it starts out as an egg that turns into a caterpillar. It then becomes a cocoon before it turns into a beautiful creature capable of fluttering free through the skies. The beauty of the butterfly and its unique metamorphosis are the most noticeable characteristics of this insect. This insect begins its life in one form and ends it in another. For some people, and in many cultures and traditions around the world, butterflies are a symbol for the 'soul' and often represent change and spiritual transformation. We can be like butterflies and transform our sadness into joy, our anger into peace, or our hate into love. All of our negative emotions can be tranformed into positive ones. Here are a couple of videos that show the incredible transformation of the butterfly.
Follow the video instructions to make this beautiful butterfly hand puppet.
Supplies needed
scissors
glue
paper - white paper or color paper
(construction paper will work great for the body while regular print paper is best for wings to make them light)
Optional: coloring supplies, wiggle eye stickers, black marker, circle punch, tape
Ask the children to stand sideways in a circle, extending their left arms inward and joining hands at the center. They should now resemble a wheel, with their arms as its spokes. Next have the children turn around the center of the circle like a wheel. After they have done so, ask them to move around the space where the class is being held, while always staying in formation. To add to the challenge, they can try skipping and hopping.
